Technology post!

So, I've been thinking seriously about getting something other than an iPod. Sure, the commercials are cute and the design is great, but I'm just not happy with them. The frailty, the battery issues, the gig size to price comparison, that has all put me off to wanting an iPod. But, I still need an MP3 player that can hold all my shite on it when I go back and forth to school.

dejitaru suggested the RCA Lyra. I found many, many different Lyra's, but the one that caught my eye most was the Lyra Jukebox. Not only is it an MP3 player, but it can also play videos (but not copyrighted or download purchased stuff, apparently). But it seems to be more of a video jukebox than an MP3 player, which is not what I need :D
Here is another jukebox, a bit more on the MP3 side. I like it, I'll keep it in mind.

zeekart suggested the Creative Zen Micro. I LOVE that this has a user friendly removable, easily interchangeable battery. Not to mention the color choices :D. It also appears to have excellent sound quality, which is something I thought the iPod lacked unless you had on the EQ, which ate up battery. I could do without the FM and voice recording options, though. And the 'no dedicated volume control' is something I'm sure I could easily overcome. The other thing that makes me go 'meh' is the capacity. 5 gigs. I have over 10 gigs of music now, so I'd have to ditch the songs I don't like, but then I'd probably have no room for carting around art stuff. So, that's why I'm leaning more towards ...

The Creative Zen Touch. A bit more bulky, but it claims to be durable. No removable battery, I think I can deal. Battery life is 24 hours, which rocks hardcore. Sound quality is very good (especially according to a user who has the same in-ear headphones that Dana and I got ^_^ ), touch pad design gives it a taste of iPod. Dedicated volume controls on the side, even a dedicated random button. So, this one looks very good. And for around $300, I think it's the same price as a 30g iPod. So, yay, an extra 10g's! I like that ...

Of course, considering my iPod is a 3rd gen, I'm sure the newer models are a bit beter. Spiffy color screens, longer battery life, comes in pretty black now. I'd already have the knowledge of an iPod, iTunes, I know how NOT to use it, but the frailty issue still gets to me. Why can't they make these things more friggin' durable?! Ooh, doing a little more research, apparently the new iPods are a lot better. Video playback capability (I don't know how well this will work with all the ' DLed videos' I have. Not to mention, I don't have a video converter program to make the videos to fit the 320 x 240-pixel screen), 20 hr battery life, a cable to upload digital camera pictures straight to the iPod (so if you run out of space on your SD card, you can store pictures straight to it)And besides, I can get a student discount at Apple ... and speaking of Apple ...

I need to get a mac. Like, a desktop mac, not a laptop. I want a brand new one, not a used, refurbished one. But then I need programs like CS2, InDesign, Quark, Free Hand, and probably Microsoft Office (unless I want to use mum's computer to write papers). But then what the hell am I going to do with my 5 yr old PC with a brand new, barely used 250g HD and more RAM? ... but an outdated sound and video card? *sigh*

This probably isn't the best time for me to think about this stuff ... Christmas time is not a time I like to buy things, simply because of all the hustle and bustle of materialistic values coming into play. It makes me feel like I NEED this stuff more than I just WANT it.

*does a jig*

I got the job at Wolf Camera.

Fuck yeah bitches.

Dana, I'm scheduled to work Saturday, 9:30 to 6:30, so I'm afraid I'm a no show for the hair cut ;_; And I need one badly, too. Sorry.

One of these days ... I *will* go on an HP Fan Trip! ... once the Nimbus people stop making kick ass conventions to go to ... or I win a free trip.

Ash, I got you your Christmas present today. Online, though. It's coming to your house sometime between the 12th and the 14th. Merry Christmas.

My 'parents' just 'bought me' the other part of my birthday present. Yeah, by 'parents' I mean me, and by 'bought' I mean I used my mom's credit card again while she wasn't looking. I got a replacement battery and servicing for my iPod.

I still want a black iPod.

Or a 2005 Mustang

Man, wouldn't it be nice to have both of them, like, together? Listening to my BLACK iPod in my BLACK car? Yeah, that'd be hot. I'm so gawth.
