I've decided to rearrange my wall space a bit, now that I've got some framed art I'd actually like to hang. My latest addition is soon to be shelves above my door and side closet to display my OOB action figures, or my bottle collection. I need to take more advantage of the space up there. I'm also going for rare posters and the like on the walls, possibly even getting a few of my grandfather's drawings framed. It feels good to rearrange my room again. I'm feeling more like myself than before. If only a little.

2 weeks later ...

I think I've finally recovered from my summer of intense fun, and now it's on with the show.

Dragon*Con was tons of fun. Costumes were a hit, Pride & Prejudice & zombies was the best. It was so much fun to be a zombie. The Yule Ball was killer, seeing lilacwire in her Kaylee layer cake dress was outstanding. The fun never ended. Met some new people, created many a new in-joke. Got my registration already for next year.

It was announced just the other day that the HP theme park was officially opening spring 2010. And also that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was due for release in 2011!

Also, work at the new Joann's location nearly killed me. Literally. I hurt my wrist and woke up this morning with a dangerous fever. Mom thought I had swine flu. Damn her nurse logic. So for today, I'm taking a break and hoping my hard working aches and pains go away soon.

Dragon*Con Send Off

With the work day over and everything packed and in the car, I'm all set to just get up and go tomorrow. Gonna check in my bags via online, print up some business cards if I can finalize a design, and just relax a bit before I get to bed at a decent hour. Flight is in the morning, so I'll be up and out by 6:30 am. So excited I can barely contain myself.

*** To the folks on my FList going to Dragon*Con ***
Drop a comment to remind me that you're going, which hotel you're staying at or any costumey things you've got planned so we can meet up, catch dinner together, meet up for a panel, etc. I know it's a huge place, but it would be nice to see all of your bright shining faces at least once this weekend!!

I'll be at the Marriot Thursday through Monday morning (I think?) with stupid_drawings and her crew.

Life is a mad, mad world

Well, if you haven't figure it out from my lack of postings, I actually got the framing supervisor position at the new JoAnn's. I'm back to full time status and it's hard to get used to all over again after a 2 year hiatus. I'm currently training with a FANTASTIC guy named Richard at the Geneva store. He's got 28 years of framing under his belt and is currently on a major pirate kick. He's also a fantasy/sci-fi fan and every time we work together is such a blast. And yet, we still manage to get things done. So much so that the department is up 51% from last year and we're the #1 framing department in the region. 40 hours a week doesn't really allow for too much free time, and despite it all I'm still pumping out some costumes.

Dragon*Con is in just over 2 weeks. I'm fucking excited as hell for it. I get to experience one of the biggest cons in the country and do it all with a seasoned vet and my lovely lady-wife stupid_drawings I just hope I can stay awake as much as possible during it. 5 Hour Energy will be my friend.

My costumes for this wonderful occasion are as follows:
Captain Barbossa
Irvine Kinneas
Boggart Snape
steampunk professional gambler/lock picker Lenora Fortuna
pirate Ariel from Little Mermaid
Pride & Prejudice zombie

I'll also bring a few more costume-y casual wears including a goth girl outfit and my Sal from Pineapple Express (which doubles as my pjs!) I'm still debating on bringing Quidditch Harry, but seeing as how HP isn't all that popular I'm hesitant to bring it if I might not wear it. Not to mention how many pairs of shoes I'll be bringing will severely limit the room for another costume I might not wear. Who knows, I might bring it anyway.

Now as far as I know, I'll be attending the Final Fantasy photoshoot, which will happen on Sunday at around 2 pm (Location: Marriot Atrium Lobby Level, carpeted space next to Atrium Ballroom - across from Pulse Bar) as well as the Pirate Party and Yule Ball, which are also both Sunday night. Other than that, my schedule as to when I'll be wearing things is up in the air and will depend on how I'm feeling. I don't plan on bringing any regular clothes except for the ones I plan to wear on the flight there and back home, so this should be exciting.

As luck would have it, I'll be staying once again with stupid_drawings, her bf, and Tiff from Azk and her bf. Such great people, I can't WAIT for the fun to be had. And it'll be nice to take one more break from reality before the horror of opening the new store begins.

Crack fic, ftw

Prompt: Sirius falls through The Veil and lands in Narnia, meets Mr. Tumnus by stupid_drawings

Yes, this is crack!fic. Don't expect much, I was just bored. No kinky stuff yet, but there might be a pt. 2? Anyone for making it a Round Robin crack!fic?

Title: BRB, going to Narnia ... bitches!
Rating: PG for Sirius' language
Pairing: Siri/Tumnus of course
Disclaimer: I've only seen the Narnia films ... and yes, I painted Sirius as a total douche. I just had to.

What to do now?

Azkatraz report coming soon, still working on it. In short, it was totally awesome and unforgetable.

The closer my store comes to closing, the more I'm hearing about last minute changes. Not only is it not appropriate for a big company like JoAnn's, but it's totally unprofessional. I'm certainly not willing to stress out over new management and complete bullshit at this new store when they've cheated the women that have been working there for 10+ years out of a job at the new store.

Needless to say, I'm looking for a new job. Finally I'm hopefully going for a graphic design job, but I fear it's far too late for me. It's been 3 years since I've really worked with photoshop, I can't even remember if I've used InDesign, and Illustrator is a bit fuzzy, too. I'm going to have to go back to school to remind myself, but truth be told I don't think I took full advantage of my classes to begin with. I was always the stupid kid in the back row that just did something to get it done.

Maybe that's what I have to do, go back to school. But without a job come October, that's next to impossible. I really can't afford it without a job, but I can't do retail any more. How do you go from a lifelong resume of retail to something like graphic design? Hell, at this point I'll take anything that involves a computer and more than minimum wage. I don't even know where to begin. I tried the Career Center at DePaul about 2 years ago and that didn't help one bit. It gave me more questions than answers. I'm trying online job market searches, which is really the only way I can think to find anything to do with computers.

Advice is greatly appreciated.

This is it. The last day. in less than 24 hours I'll be boarding a flight to San Fran with way too much crap and far too much excitment. First things first, though, is a jaunt to the Field for the Pirates exhibit, and then to work tonight from 4 to 9. Afterwards, I'm to pick up the ladies, bring them back here and try to get some sleep tonight. I doubt it's going to happen. Sleep, that is. At least for me.

Everything is packed, I ended up bringing 2 rather light suitcases and a duffle bag. Took out about 30 things last night that I didn't need. Now, if I can only remember to buy turtle food before work, I'll be all set. And hope that my brother isn't too dim-witted to figure out how to feed Morton.

The day is finally here, and it's time for me to relax and enjoy my vacation! Pool, here I come!

It seems to be all online lately, scenes popping up all over the place. Now, I know the movie is coming out soon and they need to pump up advertising, but what happened to, oh I don't know, commercials on TV? Every time I check my LJ there's a new scene posted by TLC.org. I've been really good and haven't watched ANY of them. Well, mostly because I'm still sewing my arse off. I'm SO CLOSE to finishing, it's all starting to hit.

My vacation was approved of, but I'm working 8 days in a row, maybe even more, just before we leave :( I should've taken the week before off, since my lady-wife is going to be here in Chicago for a improv class that week. But I didn't want to push it. I really shouldn't have to feel bad about taking a vacation. But now with the store moving and us having to reapply for positions, it's going to be really rough. I'm crossing my fingers that nothing bad comes up and I can still make it to D*Con :/ Besides, working 8 days in a row will guarantee me money for SF, so I'm really not complaining. Too much.

On the sewing front, today I'm tackling my last quilted leather piece and then some gloves (which are possibly the most complicated thing in these costumes). The last thing to sew is in_motu_proprio's final piece to her Ball costume. Cross your fingers that it'll all get done.
